One of the things I love most about working for myself as an artist is the freedom to shape my day in a way that works best for me. I have a loose structure — just enough rhythm to stay on track, but flexible enough to let creativity and life flow in between.
Every day looks a little different depending on what part of my business I’m focusing on, but here’s a glimpse into what a “typical” day looks like for me!

Slow & Intentional Mornings
Most mornings start around 9am. The very first thing I do is make my bed — it’s a simple act, but it sets the tone for a more grounded day. Then it’s off to the kitchen to make myself a cup of tea or coffee and some breakfast. While that’s going, I usually take a quick scan of the house to see if anything needs attention — laundry, dishes, little to-dos that help clear physical (and mental!) space.
If it’s a laundry day, I’ll take this time to sort everything into piles and get a load started. It’s oddly satisfying and gives me a sense of accomplishment early in the day.
Once breakfast is ready, I sit down with my phone to check for any urgent emails or work that needs a quick response. This helps me feel caught up before diving into my focus work.
Business Mode: Projects, Emails & Productivity
By 10am, I’ve usually set up my makeshift office and settled in with whatever projects I’m currently working on. Lately, I’ve been juggling two exciting client projects that take up about 3–4 hours of my day. These can involve anything from design work to logistics, and while it’s a bit of a grind, I genuinely enjoy this part of the process — it’s focused, creative, and goal-driven.
Midday Breaks & Puppy Sunshine
Once the “deep work” is done, I whip up a quick lunch and take a much-needed breather. A short 15-minute break outside with my dog is often the highlight of my afternoon — we run around the yard, soak in some sun, and just pause. It’s amazing what a little vitamin D and tail-wagging can do for your spirit!
Time for Art
By around 4pm, my mindset shifts from structured work to creative play. This is when I usually prep my art space and give myself an hour (sometimes more!) to dive into something visual.

Depending on the day, I’ll either:
- Work digitally on my iPad, sketching or painting
- Create on paper with pens, watercolors, or mixed media
- Or film/photograph content for social media and upcoming launches
This is truly my happy place — where ideas bloom and my soul gets to speak without words.
Evenings: Dinner, Shows & Wind-Down
By 6pm, I begin to close up shop — turning off my laptop, clearing my desk, and heading to the kitchen to make dinner. My husband and I love ending the day with a shared meal and an episode of whatever we’re watching. Right now, we’re hooked on Four Seasons on Netflix — have you seen it?
After dinner, we take our dog for a walk, tidy up the kitchen, and settle in with some light reading before bed. It’s a calming ritual that helps me unwind and reset.
